There is a subtle infection affecting society; like a bad cold it hangs on and reoccurs in large or small occasions. I mean a fear of commitment. Granted there aren’t too many models around. Generally folks quit, leave and/or blame others. However commitment is a choice for fidelity in “good times or bad”, a choice for faithfulness over a lifetime.
My Benedictine Sisters and I have chosen to risk commitment to Christ and seeking God together. God is a Sure thing! That doesn’t mean there won’t be uncertainty or that we will not be led to people and places that we’d rather not go, but we can be sure God is always with us. God loves all His children and never leaves us.
If you are ready to “let your way of acting be different from the world’s ways” as we are directed in the Rule of St. Benedict Chapter 4:20f, consider joining the Benedictines as a Sister, Oblate or Volunteer. As the father of a new recruit told her, “Give it a good try. God has given you everything–can’t you give him at least a year of your life?”
Get over the fear of commitment. Make a choice. Do it! You will see God’s awesome Presence with you, and in you.
